My grandfather told me yesterday why he ended his involvement with the Elks lodge—because they started letting women in. Classic gramps! My grandfather is no misogynist but he’s no sensitive fancy-boy either. Still, he means no malice towards women and even if you think I’m covering for the old boy, let’s, for the sake of argument, pretend he’s not a stark raving woman-hater. My grandfather has valid point though. Today there is a double standard. Any group comprised of only one type of people can meet without persecution, but if white-male-Christians want to have an exclusive club they are demonized. What’s wrong with a group of similar people sitting around doing the same thing—white or not? Male or not? Christians or not? It must have been difficult for my grandfather to watch his lodge dismantled all in the sake of political correctness—they never hurt anyone. I would care to wager the women who forced their way didn’t even want to be in—they just wanted to end the club’s exclusionary practices. What a symptom of aging—the destructions of your institutions because of the so called enlightenment alleged to exist in the people born after you.
