One of the things about growing older is socializing with people becomes a chore. Since you’re old, and realize friends are more trouble than they are worth, you need not worry about being charming. While this is greatly reduces the pressure of interpersonal communications it definitely increases the amount of tension in conversations. This is especially true for someone like me, who enjoy arguing but is also very sensitive to people’s emotional states (I can tell when people are annoyed, discontented, disturbed). Fortunately, this conundrum can be easily alleviated with alcohol.
