Shopping

When you’re young and you want something you go to the store. You don’t care if the store is brand new and immaculate or old and decrepit—if you want it you’ll go in and get it, no matter what. When you’re old, you allow other factors to determine whether or not you’ll go into a store: ease of getting in or out of the parking lot, chatty or difficult clerks that you know are working, how big is the crowd, and the amount of panhandlers loitering outside. No longer is base desire your impetus to endure the bothersome task of shopping. Really wanting a six pack or a half case of diet Barq’s is no longer enough; you also need the energy, but physical and emotional, to put up with everything else. Why? Now that you’re old the little stuff is annoying.
