Protesters

A patent signal that you are old is when you start supporting the police instead of the protesters. The old person, when seeing protesters and police clash on television, cheers for maximum arrests, heavy use of pepper spray and a few broken bones. Young people, seeing “demonstrators” march on television, automatically support the “activists” and believe the “pigs” are acting violently under strict orders from the “Man.” When you are very old, you hope for riot police at candlelight vigils and pep rallies. Today I saw police and protesters clash downtown (the initial reason for the riot is irrelevant and only gets in way of truly despising the young bastards) and was desperately hoping for the ample use of water cannons, tear gas and attack dogs. The feeling grows acute when the ungrateful and disrespectful punks wear masks. The odium old people have for protesters are independent of political and social causes. Old people loath protesters because we hate the fact they still care enough to get involved. Don’t they know they don’t matter and can never change anything? After all we never did.
